J Cuppacakes Review

I'm a sucker for sweets and I discovered another place to get my sinful delights from - J Cuppacakes! They have two branches as of this writing, one on the second floor of SM Megamall and the other at the Ground Floor of Citywalk 2 in Eastwood City, Libis beside BigOli's.

Their place is quaint and really homey, but there wasn't enough space for people to enjoy their cupcakes with coffee. What I suggest is that you buy one and have them for take out.

Curious George meets Nuttella on the left and Peanut Butter and Jelly on the right

Don't worry, they really have this nice looking box to hold your yummy cupcakes! If you don't like cupcakes, they also have lemon bars that are not sweet but would definitely tickle your sour buds.

And dear me, their flavor list is LONG! My favorites would be:

Green Tea

1. Green Tea
2. Curious George meets Nuttella (Banana Cupcake)
3. Peanut Butter and Jelly
4. Apple Pie
5. Cheesecake

I'm sorry, I think I've tried so many that I forget the rest. Their prices range from 60 to 75 pesos per cupcake, while their Lemon Bar is priced at 40 pesos.

It may be a little bit steep, but I can assure you that you won't regret it.

Warm Crab Salad with Lemon Vinaigrette

I love crabs and I equally love salads, so I tried an experiment and came up with this:

What You Need:

250g Crab sticks
1 small lettuce head
1/2 can of whole kernel  corns
Cilantro finely chopped
2 salted eggs
1 lemon
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon light butter
salt and pepper to taste

What to do:

In a pan heat butter and olive oil.
Sear the crabsticks and set aside
Heat the corn kernels

In a plate arrange the lettuce, top it with crabsticks, corn kernels and cilantro.

To make the vinaigrette:

In the saucepan that you used add a teaspoon of cilantro, the squeezed lemon juice, salt and pepper.

Serve the salad with the vinaigrette and enjoy.

Preparation time takes about 15 minutes tops.

Quiznos Review

I first heard of Quiznos from one of my favorite shows - The Big Bang Theory. So, one night when I passed by Eastwood City to pick up hubby, I was surprised to see a Quiznos open behind the Eastwood City Mall.

What we had:

Hubby's choice: The Classic Club

And for me: Chicken Carbonara

Our opinion:

The service : Considering that they made the subs upon ordering, they were able to serve it quite fast. You don't even have to guess because they give you a buzzer that vibrates as soon as your food is ready on the counter.

The food :  They have 3 sizes for their subs. Small is at 5", the Regular is at 8" and the Large is at 11". We each went for the Regular subs and from the size of the serving, I'd say that one Regular is good for 2 people, not unless you haven't had anything to eat before going there.

The price : The sandwiches are quite bigger and the prices are reasonable. Compared to other places that serve sub sandwiches, I'd recommend Quizos anytime.

And oh! What really made our day was that the sandwich fillings don't fall off when you bite onto them. Great taste, enough filling and a size that would make you full, it's the way to go.

Chatime

I must say that coffee was really not my first love. My hot drinks were mostly hot chocolate and tea as a kid, as I got older, I learned how to make my own iced tea at home. As a busy adult, I'm thankful that there's a cool place that serves tea just the way I like it - Chatime!

Last Saturday after hitting the gym, hubby and I decided to quench our thirst by going to Chatime and trying out some of their fruit flavored drinks.

My choice was the Passion Fruit Green Tea. I must say, it was refreshing and it really took away the thirst from the hard work at the gym. My drink - less ice, half sugar, sour with a tinge of sweetness, delicious!

Hubby's choice was the Kumquat Lemon Juice. I tried it and it had just the right amount of sweetness to it. Also, the Kumquat Lemon Juice is served without sugar, just a small amount of honey to sweeten it a bit.

Why do I like Chatime? You can customize your drink as to how much ice and sugar you want in them. Their flavor list is also extensive. Can't wait to try more from this tea chain.

Sinigang sa Miso

One of my favorite fish dishes would be the sour broth with miso and that was what we had last Sunday.

What you need:

1K bangus (or your fish of choice)
1/4K of miso
1 bunch of mustasa
1 cup of water
1 small onion finely chopped
5 cloves of garlic chopped
3 medium tomatoes chopped
1 small ginger chopped
1 Sinigang sa sampalok mix
2 tablespoons of oil

What to do:

1. Prepare and wash the fix and vegetables
2. Saute garlic, onions, ginger, tomatoes and miso in oil
3. Once the miso is cooked, add the water and wait for it to boil
4. Put in the raw fish in the boiling broth and add the sinigang mix, boil until the fish is cooked
5. Add the mustasa and simmer it until the mustasa is half cooked
6. Salt and pepper to taste
7. Serve with hot rice and enjoy

*** A variation of this recipe is to fry the fish first before putting it in the broth. I prefer cooking it paksiw style, meaning that the fish is cooked in the broth.
